CHALLENGE

Showers are a basic necessity that are a challenge to access for individuals experiencing homelessness. The inaccessibility of showers can negatively impact the health and wellness of those in our community.

SOLUTION

Mobile Shower helps individuals experiencing homelessness to easily find a mobile shower near them. Our users are able to keep track of the mobile showers they plan to visit and receive reminders. This app also provides links to additional helpful resources.

RESEARCH

I searched up mobile shower companies in order to gain a deeper understanding of their purpose and their audience.

"...everyone deserves to be treated with dignity, compassion and kindness regardless of where you live." - Lava Mae

"Our mission is to dispel stigmas against homelessness through community support and individual empowerment. We achieve this by organizing workshops and projects that address health and hygiene, educational opportunities and professional development." - HOPE at Davis

PERSONAS

Based on the research I conducted, I created two personas and a user scenario.

Personas2
USABILITY TESTING

I created a usability test where 5 users tested the closed task assigned. During the usability test, I observed their actions and asked them questions to gain feedback.

TASK
  1. Search for a nearby mobile shower at your desired time on a weekly basis
  2. Find your reminders
QUESTIONS
  • What additional resources would you like to see?
  • What can be improved?
  • Did it meet your end goal?
FEEDBACK
  • Provide a link to the mobile shower companies
  • Ability to change when to be notified
  • Add a map background on the search page
  • Provide additional resources
  • Add current location mark on map

REFLECTION

This project taught me how to use research to understand the users. I would like to further develop this project by interviewing people experiencing homelessness to further cater to their needs, as opposed to only relying on research and usability tests from my peers.
